ABOUT ARTHAUS

The Arthaus is a collaborative exhibition project located in a 13th-century 6-story house in Basel, Switzerland, taking place during Art Basel week.

Held in a historic residence overlooking the Rhine River, Arthaus offers an alternative exhibition experience by fostering immersive, community-driven encounters among artists, collectors, and curators in a domestic setting. The spaces are curated by different galleries, transforming the house into a dynamic showcase of contemporary art.

Taking place in June, Arthaus opens its doors daily from 4 – 10 pm as a dynamic social hub, inviting art lovers to gather and immerse themselves in a living showcase of global contemporary art on the cutting edge.

Organized by Ethan Cohen, this exhibition is a collaborative project between Guelman und Unbekannt Gallery, Blond Contemporary, and Ethan Cohen Gallery. This is the third Arthaus exhibition organized by Ethan Cohen, following the initial project he launched in Cape Cod 15 years ago.

We are excited to organize the Arthaus for its second year in Basel and welcome our colleagues participating with experimental projects.

This year’s Arthaus features an exciting array of contemporary and post-war artists, including: Aboudia, Isaac Aden, Ai Weiwei, Emil Alzamora, Armand Boua, Frédéric Bruly Bouabré, Sophia Bounou, Chi Ming, Claudia Coca, Thomas Deininger, Li Daiyun, Ron English, Erik Foss, Marat Guelman, Hal Hirshorn, David Hockney, Katinka Huang, Margaret Innerhofer, Komar & Melamid, Bill Komoski, Lan Zhenghui, Lara Birgit Kamhi, Fabian Marcaccio, Donna Mikkelsen, Catheris Mondombo, Anna Navasardian, Yigal Ozeri, Jim Peters, Paul Paiement, Qiu Deshu, Ushio Shinohara, Vladimir Sorokin, Mark Tobey, and James Vaulkhard.

Among the exhibition highlights, Ethan Cohen Gallery (New York) presents solo exhibitions by Catheris Mondombo, Frédéric Bruly Bouabré, Li Daiyun, Paul Paiement, and Margaret Innerhofer, as well as several curated group exhibitions spanning six stories. Guelman und Ubekannt (Berlin), led by Marat Guelman, features a headline immersive exhibition by the legendary conceptual duo Komar & Melamid. Blond Contemporary (London), under the direction of Phillip Blond, will present a special exhibit of works by British icon David Hockney.

Evening programs run daily from 4 – 10 PM, June 14 through 21, with an Opening Reception on Saturday, June 14. Events include live performances, curated talks, and private gatherings aimed at cultivating meaningful connections within the art community.
